Plugged Into the RV

One of my favorite images in quite a while. I just love the colors. The primary colors perfectly compliment the simplicity of the subject. I just think it's cool.

Rain on the Window

Sometimes I just think rain is cool-looking and I take pictures, so sue me.

Grasshopper--Not the Cookie

We stopped during a wonderful family shoot so I could provide you with this photo of a grasshopper. You're welcome.

Puddle on a Sidewalk in the Pouring Rain

It rained and hailed and stormed today. It was awesome! I wish I would have had more time to enjoy it but this shot turned out great.

I used Vignette for Android as I almost always do. I used the Tilt-shift mode which is pretty hit and miss. It works well on monochrome images but on color images it leaves a weird magenta cast on everything and really muddles up the blur. I find it pretty much unusable. That would be why this is in black & white.

Autumn Road

The road up Little Cottonwood Canyon where we went on a picnic yesterday. Hannah and mom had a good time freaking out about the bugs and we got a chance to get out of the house and enjoy the still-warm autumn air.

Embossed Leather Wall Covering

A wedding venue in Midway, Utah has this incredible vintage leather wallpaper. I was absolutely fascinated by it.

Sharing Her Treasure

I love this image. Not for what it is photographically but for reasons only a parent can appreciate. It's not an amazing photograph but it means the world to me. This is why people everywhere, regardless of their skill with a camera, still take pictures. It's personal.
This is Hannah trying to calm Olivia at church by showing off her new heart box (complete with an H for Hannah inside)she got from her aunt Kim. She has carried the box around pretty much constantly since Kim had all the nieces and nephews over for a sleepover last week. I love that since clearly SHE thinks it's the greatest thing in the world, 1-month-old Olivia would too.
I love my kids.

Valley View Over the Capitol

Really cool view point up above the Salt Lake Valley. I was shooting an amazing home up above the Capitol building and stopped to enjoy the view. I hoped you guys would enjoy seeing it as well.

A Manual "Auto" HDR

Still playing around with HDR. I did a manual merge in PicSayPro of three images. At this point the easiest way to do it is 3 separate exposures of the same image via Vignette (It's the only camera app I know with exposure control, even if it's just over/underexpose.)
I would have liked more from the dials but this was all I could get. I'll keep playing around with it.
Um, yes, that is a huge crack across my windshield.

State Fair

I LOVE the fair. I think I was a carny in another life.
There was so much to see that I decided I would post more than just the one shot for today! Enjoy.

This place is fast becoming one of my favorite places to shoot.

Android HDR - Automatic

This is from an app I recently purchased called Camera 360. Overall the app is quite buggy and pretty average but it has some cool features, one of which is an automatic HDR (or High Dynamic Range) generator.
It doesn't seem to make a huge difference in the actual captured dynamic range but the color saturation is nice. I'll play with it more as the days go on. It's an intriguing feature.
Below is the original image as the camera shot it.

Android HDR - Utes Game Day

Rice-Eccles-Utah-Football-stadium-android-hdr

Another HDR image shot with Camera360. I still am not sure it's actually providing any more range. The darks seem at least as dark and the lights at least as light. Clearly it is upping the contrast and saturation to achieve a better image but the jury is still out on whether it represents actual HDR.
Of course, in this situation, there isn't much need for HDR because the light is pretty even and recordable, even for a tiny camera sensor.

Again, below is the image set to the default Cliq camera settings.

Olivia

Kids are infinitely photographable. I really could shoot a photo of one of my kids every day and have it be a fun blog...but I won't. You do have to sit through the occasional tongue moment that very well might just be cute to myself and Lori but you'll get over it, and if you have kids you'll understand.

Game On

Just thought this looked cool. I loved the sky. I just hope the guy who owned the house didn't think I was too odd shooting his basketball hoop with my phone.

Square Frame and Long Train

The tracks near Tooele. I like the way a long, horizontal subject is fit into a square frame.

Showers and Shadows

The way the light shone through the slits in the fence onto the shower by our pool created a very vertical image. I like how that verticality juxtaposes with the uniformity of the square frame. I also like how the diagonal shadow of the fence that cuts across the top-right corner is balanced by the deep shadows of the dark lower-left corner. All of this kind of swirls around the knob in the center. Cool image.

Pretty Mommy

I have a beautiful wife who has beautiful babies. Lori doesn't really like me taking pictures of her all the time but sometimes I just do it for the same reason you pinch yourself when something is too good to be true. I often find myself doubting the reality of my life when I realize how amazing this girl is.

Sleeping Baby...Finally.

Livvy asleep. She is the lightest little sleeper. She is like her mom, just when you think she's asleep she'll contribute to the conversation. I never could tell when Lori was out or not. I guess since Hannah is so much like me it's only fair that Olivia be more like Lori. I guess we'll see.

No real reason behind this image except that I thought it looked interesting.

The Doors

One of my favorite buildings in Salt Lake City. We were doing a photo shoot down there and I took a minute to shoot my One-a-Day. I love geometric shapes and how they interact, especially with a square frame.
Incidentally, I have also been listening to The Doors a lot lately so that might have influenced my choice of subjects.

Go Utes!

Holiday! Well, the first day of football is the same thing. I LOVE college football! That love was compounded by a nerve-wracking victory over the Pitt Panthers. Go Utes!

Rusticky...with the emphasis on the Icky.

A bit of a different shot this time. I shoot a lot of real estate (over 5000 listings so far) and saw this ceiling fan in a house I was shooting. It has the distinction of being the exact opposite of  my decor taste so I thought it was an appropriate image of the day.
Don't be offended if this is your style, different strokes and whatnot, but quite frankly, I think this could hold the distinction of the WORLD'S UGLIEST CEILING FAN. But that's just me.
