What IS the One-a-Day Project?

When people see my photography they often remark, "You must have a really good camera!" Well, yes, yes I do--but do people tell Tiger Woods that he has really good clubs? Or tell Stephen King that he must have a really good typewriter? Photography is so much more than the type of gear you own. As proof of concept both to myself and others, I concocted this project. I will post a single image each day through 2010. The image must be made on that day and I am limiting my tools to one--my favorite phone ever, the Motorola Cliq with Android. All capture and editing of every image will be done entirely on my phone and uploaded directly.
Hopefully you will 1. enjoy the images, and 2. realize that images come from imagination, skill, and ingenuity and equipment is simply a tool. The title of this blog really should be I Can Beat You With My DSLR Tied Behind My Back.

Inspiration for the project also came from Chase Jarvis and his book "The Best Camera is the One that's With You"

About Me

Jon Woodbury: I was born a redhead. I had a wonderful childhood growing up in suburban Salt Lake City and graduated from Woods Cross High with the intention of going into commercial art for a living, attended Snow College on a theater scholarship just to impress a girl, then got called on an LDS church mission to the Czech and Slovak Republics. I fell in love with (among others) two things on my mission--traveling and taking pictures. I purchased a seemingly indestructible, stainless steel, fully manualmatic, 5-lb wonder of a Russian 35 mm camera while in the mountains of Slovakia. After graduating from the University of Utah (Go Utes!) in Business Communication I got a job for a well-known day planner company. After 8 years and all the seminars you could eat I knew there must be something else for me to do. I took a leap, began shooting weddings and found the career equivalent of a soul mate. Nearly 100 weddings later I love it even more. In 2007 our baby girl, Hannah, was born and my life has never been the same. It's been much, much better. But enough about me, let's talk about you...
