Erin

Erin is an amazing person, my business partner, and one of my best friends. She has slept on our couch a lot and Lori and I love having her around. (I think Hannah does too.)
I wanted to do a full-on studio-lit portrait but we didn't have time so I just used the available light of the lamp. It was quite the experience trying to feather the light from the lamp so it hit the way I wanted.

A Project

Hannah has learned to put her shoes on the right feet. It takes a while but it is fun to watch her go through the process. I LOVE my kids. I love just watching them go through the motions of every day life. I love watching them learn and grow. I love being a Daddy.

Dead Time

I've always felt like I lose a couple minutes of my life every time I fill up with gas. It's not long enough to really do or read anything but it's long enough that I feel I need to use it for something...hmmmmmm.
It was the perfect length of time to take a photo.

Huh? What Game?

The only person NOT on the edge of her seat at the incredible BYU vs. Utah rivalry game. Utah staged a 4th quarter comeback for the ages and won on the last play of the game by blocking the game-winning field goal. GO UTES!!

Thanksgiving

I actually did a shoot on Thanksgiving Day this year. It was a fun shoot with the Call Family up in South Weber. This was one of the interesting images I saw while hanging out at the farm where we shot.

Table Lamp

A home-made light for church dances used as a table lamp. Don't think too much about it.

Falling Hard

I love the colors of fall but they're even more dramatic under a blanket of white. I wish I'd have had more time to capture it but at least I had my phone!

So Much for Nostalgia

In this post on November 7th, I talked about our tree that sits just outside our kitchen window. Well, in a grand gesture of anti-sentimentalism, nature hit us with a huge, wet snow storm. With autumn leaves still on the tree, the weight of the snow was just too much. About half the tree split off under the stress.
It makes me sad. I went out and knocked the snow off the other branches in an effort to at least save what is left but i don't know if the tree can survive.
All of a sudden, the pictures I've taken of it have become that much more valuable.

The Sev

Who doesn't love the 7-eleven? There's just something awesome about a store that is open all night where you can get a slurpee and a doughnut any time of day.

Interview

While we were at the Traffic division to get our car out of impound (a long story,) this police officer did an interview about the progress in the case to find two men who base-jumped off the Church Office Building, the tallest building in Salt Lake City.

Dear Hannah

This photo isn't about the photo at all. (Hannah wouldn't sit still long enough to take a decent one.) It's about one of the most fun nights I've ever had.
Tonight, Hannah and I went on our first date. She said she wanted to go on an "abenture" while Mommy and Olivia went to a girls night out with Lori's friends. After a little bit of crowd-sourcing on facebook, the movie, Megamind edged out Chuck E. Cheese's for the destination of choice.
We had "star nuggets" at Carl's Jr., rode the carousel at Hollywood Connection, got a drink, some candy, and a huge vat of popcorn, and hunkered in for the movie. I chose the 2D version at a theater where the 3D version was being shown at the same time. Hannah's probably too young for the 3D anyway and I figured there would be very few people. I was right. There were three other families, all with young children. I think we all felt good about the fact that if someone melted down, the others would understand.
The story was a bit too grown-up for her so she lost interest about halfway in. That was the point where she started trying out each empty seat in our row one by one, just to see which one worked for her. She lost a shoe at some point, spent some time watching the movie standing in the aisle, then finally ended up on my lap for the last 2o minutes.
We held hands as we walked back to the car and I buckled her in. The night ended as I tucked her into bed and got my good night kiss.

This isn't a badly focused, badly angled photo. It's the one and only reminder of one of the greatest nights of my life and by far the best first date I've ever had.

Future Nostalgia

I can promise that these trees will be future nostalgia. We see them all the time out our kitchen window. They turn the most amazing colors in the fall. Years down the road when we have long since moved from this house, we will look back on "our" trees with a smile.

Here, Fishy!

Is it just me, or does this fish look a little less intelligent than the other fishes?

Bubbles in a Fish Tank

Without a doubt one of my favorites of the year. This image grabs me.

Focused on a Focused Baby

This kid gets cuter and cuter every day. There was something about this pose that I loved. Okay, it's not really a pose, but she looks like she just can't be contained. Even though she really can't move, she wants to go out into the world and explore--as if to say, "If only I could get this body to cooperate!"
